The end of 2004 draws near…
Posted: Friday, December 24th, 2004 by Will DaybleI kinda get the feeling I haven’t don’t enough over the past year with Pith, and I’m not really sure what’s been holding me back… Lack of funds? Lack of time? Laziness?
Either way, I keep thinking there’s more I can be doing with all of this. I’m not really sure where to concentrate energies though, there are quite a few things to be done but I’m not sure which should take priority. There was a reason behind all of this orginally… a more ethical, reasonable path for humanity and all…
I seem to be forgetting to just sit back and have a think about where everything’s going and what I should be doing… so for 2005 I think I’m going to set out the ‘path’ of this all a bit more solidly and try to stick to it.
On the agenda currently, in no specific order:
- Get the online store running
- Get the Cabbage and Fahk CDs out
- Get some REAL promo going, more interviews and reviews and radio play and stuff.
- Practice more with Cabbage and get the new set going
- Get it all legal. Register the business name and sort out my accounts (egh, more spending!)
- Looking into getting some funding from our crappy government
- Push more on the ‘ethical’ side of stuff with Pith
- Secure some better in-store interstate distro
- Organise WAY more gigs
- Get some merch done! lots of it!
I think topping that list currently are the Cabbage and Fahk CDs, but I’m kinda broke, which is a bugger.
Funding really would be cool I guess…
Aw I dunno, it’s healthy to re-evaluate how things are going every once in a while and re-align priorities right?
Soon we’re going to be launching an ‘Ethical Consumerism’ section on the site (see this thread), which suprisingly enough heaps of people have decided to jump on board with! Really, really cool to see that. It’s going to involve a fair bit of research and stuff but it feels like it’s a good thing to be doing…
In reviewing my priorities with all of this I can see I’ve kinda lost track of my original ‘big plan’ with this whole thing - Pith, the ethical record label. That’s where the original passion was, that’s a big reason why people are going to get behind this and make it into something really great, not just another record label.
At least that’s what the delusions of grandeur said right?
I’ve been reading Naomi Klein’s ‘No Logo’ which is really damn good, it’s kinda spurred me on to do this shit well, which is pretty cool.
In other news I’ve been taken on for a regular column over at garageradio.com called ‘Indie Downunder’, apparently I have enough indie-guy cred… hah! … oh, and if all goes to plan we’re going to be stocking Black Spot Sneakers in our store which is mega cool, those Adbusters guys are awesome.
Anyway, merry non-specific festive-season celebration time everyone, and a mega-happy new year! Here’s hoping 2005 proves to be rockin.
